| Road from the city of Mt. Shasta up the slopes of Mount Shasta to 8000'. Above town, the road climbs steadily through manzanita brush and small forests. Looking back is a view of the Eddy mountains and Black Butte to the west. The trees thickens on higher slopes.... ...climbing through virgin red fir forest. Around 5000" is a stretch of steep slopes with views of Mt. Shasta ahead... ...with Castle Crags and the Sacramento River valley to the south. Far to the west are the Trinity mountains. A series of hairpin turns lies in an alpine setting. The panorama from the hairpin turns. The final turn leads to a parking area... ...above which is Green Butte, Sargeants Ridge and the summit of Mt. Shasta. |
